Facilitator Application 2019-2020

Dear Prospective Facilitator,

Thank you for your interest in becoming a facilitator for the Spring 2020 Education for Sustainable Living Program Class!

Description of the program - The Education for Sustainable Living Program (ESLP) is a collaborative space, focused on reshaping the way we learn within academia, embracing student agency, and providing opportunities to engage in issues of social and environmental justice. By using models of horizontal learning and critical pedagogies, ESLP supports student-facilitated Action Research Teams and a Spring Series. ESLP fosters a space where individuals can internalize sustainability & social justice and apply it to academia and greater society. We aim to co-create a foundation for skills including facilitation, community building and organizing. Our program is guided by the Blueprint for a Sustainable Campus for the University of California, Santa Cruz - created by Enviroslug.

This is a two quarter time commitment. During Winter Quarter, you will enroll in CRSN 160, a 5-unit course, equivalent to 15 hours a week.  This course focuses on developing educational programming and facilitation skills for potential Action Research Team facilitators. Throughout the course, you will have the option of developing curriculum for a 2-unit or a 5-unit Action Research Team that you would facilitate in the Spring.

Tentatively, the Winter Training Seminar will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:40-1:15pm. In this seminar, you will work to create a project description while learning facilitation tools and activities.

We would like to emphasize that even if you fill out this application, we are unable to accept anyone as a facilitator if they have a GPA of 2.5 or below and/or if they are currently under any disciplinary sanctions imposed by their affiliated college. If any of these restrictions apply to you, please contact the Academic sphere of ESLP via the email: acasphere2020-group@ucsc.edu.

Creating a 5 unit action research team can require a large time commitment, a possible way to work with this is to collaborate with another student as co-facilitators. More information and a FAQ about the spring class can be found on our website https://www.eslp-enviroslug.org/If you wish to co-facilitate, only one application form is required but each applicant must complete a separate 2-page essay and personal statement. An example of past application from co-facilitators is available ESLP website (http://eslp.enviroslug.org).

Please submit your application to eslp@ucsc.edu, with your availability for an interview. As well as sending your unofficial transcript to the ESLP Staff Advisor Carmen Gutierrez (cgutier9@ucsc.edu) by Friday, November 15th.
